In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF)

In-vitro Fertilization (IVF) is also named as the Test Tube Baby procedure. Eggs and sperm are collected and placed together to form an embryo. This is then transferred to the uterus to continue growing.

Step 1: Preparing Ovary for Stimulation

Step 2: Stimulation of Ovary and Monitoring

The ovaries are stimulated with medicament injection to develop the of follicles consisting the eggs. The ovaries is observe with ultrasounds and / or blood tests, to set the size and quantity of follicles.

Step 3: Monitoring and stimulation by USG & blood E2 level

Step 4: Timing of Egg Retrieval : The oocytes retrieval is scheduled approximately 34-36 hours after the hCG injection

This phase is very important and need to take place and complete before the natural ovulation cycle. The eggs need to mature at this stage and thus be ready for retrieval

Step 5: Physicians use a long needle is placed through the vaginal opening and made to reach the ovary and puncture ovarian follicles and collect fluid.

Step 6: Embryologist looks at the fluid under the microscope and finds the egg from each follicle.

Eggs are washed and placed in a dish.

This entire procedure is guided by ultrasound and egg retrieval process takes 20-30 minutes and is under anesthesia

Step 7: Sperm Insemination : Finding the best lookers and swimmers

  • The “best motile” fastest progressive sperms are collected.
  • Then motile sperm and eggs are combined to create an embryo. This step is called “Insemination.”

Step 8: Fertilization

Male and female genetic material combine

Eggs are examined the 12-18 hours after retrieval for fertilization.

The presence of two nuclei in the center of the egg is a sign that normal fertilization occurred.

The fertilized eggs are moved to a new dish and watched every day for cell division.
